Our Story

A six year old girl walked into a back room in a busy bazaar in the Punjab with her mother, all she could hear was the mutter of people talking but above that was the tap tapping of craftsmen tapping wood.... A closer look showed a row of men meticulously carving wood into pretty patterns. She was mesmerised. This little girl was me.

On another trip to the workshop I recall feeling rather bored as I heard my mum discuss patterns, colours and fabric designs for what seemed like forever till one of the artisans called me over to sit on a small stool by him He let me choose a block design, showed me how to load it with paint and make a print on fabric. It was magical fun and so satisfying. From then on I looked forward to these trips as I always got to have a go at block printing.

I am Jo, the founder of Prints Of The Punjab. The name reflects home and a love of creativity and printing using this beautiful timeless art. On a recent trip to the Punjab and Rajasthan my love for this craft was rekindled. Watching men painstakingly carve intricate shapes from a blocks of wood....using vibrant colours to create stunning designs on bales of fabric transported me back to the joy the six year old experienced, this coincided with my decision to draw a long and very fulfilling and incredible career as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to a close. Serendipity of attending a block printing workshop gave birth to this exciting venture running workshops to inspire and bring joy to others.

I live in South Birmingham with my husband and our gorgeous chocolate Labrador. Our grownup children (2 boys and a girl) and four utterly delightful grandchildren bring us much joy.

I am loving the challenge of starting a business what felt like a loss (of a career) has been a huge gain. We are all creative beings longing for meaning and connection. The workshops aim to bring you just that as you connect with friends, make new friends you will experience joy a sense of wellbeing and create unique designs on textiles.

We cannot wait to welcome you to our workshops
